Kerem Shalom is pleased to announce that registration for 2020-2021 Hebrew School is now open. The innovative once-a-week program is offered tuition-free to members with students in grades one through high school, and Kindergarten and Holiday preschool programs are open to non-members for a nominal fee.
Whatever the fall brings, Kerem Shalom is excited to welcome students back—whether it be in the classroom, online (as we’ve been this spring), or a blend of both.
Our dynamic Hebrew School program empowers students to find their own paths to authentic relationships with Jewish heritage and identity by connecting youth with one another, the synagogue community, and the world at large, through peer learning; participation in services and community celebrations; and tikkun olam (Social Action) projects within the Greater Boston community. In addition to a robust classroom experience, students enjoy a creative music program, community activities, and celebrations.
This summer, Kerem Shalom looks forward to welcoming Rabbi Sam Pollak as our first Director of Congregational Learning. Pollak, was ordained a rabbi at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and also received a MA in Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Union, will direct all Hebrew School, youth, and family programs, working with Kerem Shalom’s long-time family educator, Nancy Kaplan.
Community building is a hallmark of our Hebrew School program. During school hours, this takes place at hands-on interactive monthly communal activities across the grades, and within in each classroom through informal and group activities. Beginning with 7th grade, students socialize over dinner and dessert as part of the school program.
Parents are also encouraged to connect with one another at our Sunday morning Family Education programs, our grade-level family Shabbat dinners, Mitzvah (Righteous Action) Day, and school-wide holiday celebrations.
Music is an important part our school experience. Every class participates in a music and movement session once a week, and the entire school also comes together for Holiday singing and services throughout the year.
Children are welcome to join our program at any grade level. We are happy to make special accommodations for students who have never attended a Hebrew school program prior to entering Kerem Shalom Hebrew School.
