Food & Allergy Policy
Kerem Shalom is a smoke-free building. We do not allow pork, shellfish, nuts, or nut products, in the building.
Kerem Shalom follows a comprehensive Food and Allergy Policy to enable all members to eat at Kerem Shalom and to ensure that healthy options are offered at events and classes.
From our policy: “Food has always played a central role in Judaism; we use food for communal sharing and celebration. While we want to continue this tradition, for an increasing population, this communal sharing has become both life-threatening and a roadblock to participating in our community.”
At Purim, we saw our policy come to life when two alternative types of hamantashen were prepared—one that was gluten-free and one that had no egg or dairy and was made in a nut-free environment. The look on kids’ faces when we offered them a hamantashen that they could actually eat was priceless!
It is our hope that Kerem Shalom members will embrace this policy and help create an environment that allows children and adults who have food allergies and special food needs to be able to participate fully in our community.

Cancellation Policy
Kerem Shalom follows the Concord Public Schools’ decisions regarding closure and cancellation of activities due to inclement weather.
Hebrew School
When Concord Public Schools are closed due to weather, Kerem Shalom School will also be closed. If Kerem Shalom needs to close for the afternoon due to deteriorating weather, a decision will be made by noon for that afternoon’s classes. Concord Public Schools will be notified, as will the Concord Bus Service.
How can Kerem Shalom School families get information about school closings?
- You will receive an email by 1 pm announcing the closing.
- You will also receive a phone call from your child’s teacher confirming the email.
- Call Kerem Shalom at 978-369-1223. If school is closed, the outgoing message will state that we are closed.
